The summit will include addresses by elected officials, the Texas Association of Business, immigration law experts and business owners.
Confirmed speakers include Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas; Rep. Ralph Hall, R-Texas; Bill Hammond, Texas Association of Business president; Jake Monty, an immigration attorney and enforcement specialist from Monty & Associates; and Jane Brookshire, Pilgrim’s Pride executive vice president of human relations.
The event will include a discussion about immigration reform with local business owners.
TEIR’s Web site says immigration reform can result in a realistic, comprehensive solution or a piecemeal failure.
“We can’t just build walls around a broken system — we need to fix the system to make sure we achieve real security, restore law and order and have enough workers to continue growing our economy,” the statement on the Web site said. “That’s why we support a temporary guest worker program combined with clear, sensible workplace enforcement.”
Tuesday’s summit will focus on topics including: the broken immigration system, the need for labor, accessing a legal workforce in today’s labor market, workforce compliance and enforcement, detecting and reporting document fraud, the status of immigration reform and engaging Congress to solve the problem.
