Lee Faces Nacogdoches
Robert E. Lee is 1-3 this young season, but is unbeaten at home.
The Red Raiders beat Pine Tree 66-61.
Lee will try and knock off another 12-4A team Monday as the Red Raiders play host tp Nacogdoches (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. at REL Varsity Gymnasium.
The game holds special meaning for head coach Alan Johnston and his staff.
"I am excited to play that game," Johnston continued. "All three of the coaches at Lee are from Nacogdoches.
"My assistants Danny Russell, Jody Sory, it's going to be a fun game for us, but in terms of competition, they are a very good basketball team."
The Red Raiders are smarting from back-to-back losses over the weekend at the Burger King Classic. Lee was dropped 72-68 by Mount Pleasant and 68-43 by Dallas Skyline.
Lee junior Kerry Jones was the lone double-figure scorer in the most recent loss to Skyline, finishing with 15 points. REL committed 21 turnovers and was outscored 23-8 in the third quarter of the game.
"Right now we are trying to figure out what we are good at, but I can't fault their effort," Johnston said. "I am seeing better things. It's going to be a process and I understand that."
