UTT Students Get Scholarships
The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center recognized 21 Garland scholarship recipients, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

The 2007-08 Garland Scholars were recognized at the first Longview University Center endowed scholarship luncheon held Monday at the Summit Club in Longview.

Longview residents Neal and Peggy Garland established a $500,000 endowment for deserving students.

"The Neal and Peggy Garland Scholarship Fund returns about $25,000 each year for Longview students, and we are pleased to meet each current recipient and give them the opportunity to express their gratitude to Neal and Peggy. We look forward to making this an annual event," President Mabry said.

Linda Thomas, scholarship committee chair and UT Tyler Longview Development Council member, also recognized scholars.

During the luncheon, President Mabry presented Longview University Center accomplishments and plans for the immediate future.

Carla Standly gave remarks on behalf of the recipients. She is a nursing major.

The Garland Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to Longview students who attend either the Longview or Tyler campus.

Recipients for 2007-08 are Melissa Arroyo, Tamara Brown, Kyia Burns, Ludie Karen Cook, Angella Ewing, Evelyn Green, LaDonna M.
