One, two, three, four, five.
As easy as it is to count, Eric King and Cody Murphy worked together to give Kilgore a 17-14 win over Mount Pleasant Friday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
King hit Murphy on five straight passes to set up Hakeem Colbert's 1-yard touchdown run with 1:08 left in the game to lift Kilgore to the Class 4A Division II bi-district win in front of about 6,000 fans.
Now Kilgore (9-2) reaps the benefit of entering the playoffs as the District 12-4A champion - the Bulldogs face No. 1 Highland Park in the area round.
Mount Pleasant (6-5) lost to Kilgore for the second time this season. The Bulldogs won, 28-27, the first week of the seaon.
Up 14-10, Mount Pleasant had stifled Kilgore's offense, holding Bulldogs quarterback Eric King to 3-of-13 passing for 52 yards. King and Murphy, however, had other plans.
King hit Murphy on a 28-yard post route and then four straight out-routes to take Kilgore down to the Mount Pleasant 1-yard line.
Colbert capped the 68-yard drive 1:05 after it started with a diving touchdown.
Mount Pleasant ran seven more plays in the final minute but managed seven total yards after speedy quarterback Terrell Howard was sacked for a 10-yard loss.
Mount Pleasant went up 7-3 at halftime when Howard connected with DeMarcus King in the back of the end zone with five seconds left in the second quarter.
The scored stayed the same - and neither offense moved much - until 7:51 showed in the third quarter. On his own 9-yard line, Howard was picked off by Denny Smith, who took the pigskin into the end zone for a 15-yard return.
A minute and 32 seconds later, Mount Pleasant responded. Eric Smith took a toss right, faked a reverse to receiver Trentson Hill and saw nothing but open field all the way to paydirt for a 69-yard touchdown.

Smith had the only dazzling offensive stats in the game, rushing for 147 yards on 12 carries.
Mount Pleasant, which dominated on paper, missed out on two touchdowns in the second quarter.
Howard found Hill on a fade route in the back corner of the end zone on fourth-and-4 on the Kilgore 13, but Hill was unable to get a foot down and the Tigers turned the ball over on downs.
On the first play of Mount Pleasant's next drive, Hill's 94-yard touchdown catch from Howard was called back due to a holding penalty.
