Local Dancer Stepping Out In Vegas
By LAUREN KEATON
Entertianment Writer

Ashlee Langas moved from Tyler to Los Angeles when she appeared on last summer's Fox reality dance competition "So You Think You Can Dance?"

Now the Robert E. Lee High School graduate and former Kilgore College Rangerette is "Sin City'' bound.

Ms. Langas recently signed an extended contract with Bette Midler as one the dancers for her Las Vegas show.

"There are a lot of different styles in the show," Ms. Langas said, adding that her choreographer is Toni Basil, known for her '80s hit single "Mickey"- as in "Oh Mickey you're so fine."

Ms. Langas said she will be challenged with ballet, jazz and showgirl moves during the rehearsals and performances opening Feb. 20, but she said this could be her springboard.

"The Bette Midler show is definitely my jumping off point," the dancer said.

Ms. Langas also added that she missed the first two auditions for the Vegas spot.

"I missed both of them and I was kind of bummed because (I thought) that would have been a great opportunity," she said.

A few weeks later, her agent called and said she was asked to audition because not all the spots had been filled.

So, she took a chance.

"I got a call about two weeks later and they told me they wanted me for the job," she said.

Ms. Langas said she is equally excited about additional acts appearing at the Vegas venue.

"Elton John and Cher are performing on the same stage," she said. "That is pretty cool that I will be sharing the same stage they are."

In the meantime, Ms. Langas is gearing up for the Macy's Day Parade in New York, where she has been asked to lead dance team members from around the country.

"I am going to teach a class while I am up in New York to all the girls performing in the parade," she said. "They wanted me to teach so that they could have a drill team girl who is living her dream in L.A."
