Tylerites Enjoy Big Weekend

Two Tylerites - Tim Crowder and Matt Flynn - made a couple of highlight-reel plays in the NFL and college football over the weekend.
Both were staples on the Plays of the Week videos.
Fantastic Flynn
First on Saturday, Flynn, who starred at Robert E. Lee High School and is now the starting quarterback for LSU, stunned the Auburn Tigers with a last-second, picture-perfect, game-winning touchdown.
It not only won the game for Louisiana State, but it also kept the Bengals in the national championship hunt.

ROBERT E. LEE PRODUCT: LSU quarterback Matt Flynn throws a pass in the first half against Auburn Saturday in Baton Rouge, La.
Trailing 24-23 with just over three minutes to play, Flynn marched LSU on a nine-play, 58-yard drive, which was capped off with a 22-yard scoring strike to Demetrius Byrd with one second left on the clock. The play helped LSU to a 30-24 win over Auburn.
The TD pass was the highlight for Flynn but overall he had his best game of his career, setting career highs for completions (22), attempts (34) and passing yards (314) and tied another career-best with three touchdown passes.
Flynn's heroics were rewarded as he was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The Tylerite also rushed for 34 yards, including runs of 10 and 7 yards, on LSU's game-winning drive.
With LSU trailing 17-7 at halftime, Flynn took over in the second half, guiding the Tigers to scores on five of their six possessions.
Although LSU appeared ready to try a game-winning field goal attempt, Flynn went to the air with nine seconds showing.
Flynn looked left and threw the ball over the outstretched arms of Auburn cornerback Jerraud Powers. Byrd caught the ball with one second on the clock for the touchdown that sent the crowd of 92,630 fans at Tiger Stadium into a frenzy.
"... what Byrd and Matt Flynn did was spectacular," LSU coach Les Miles said.
Along with Flynn, Tyler's Ciron Black made his 21st consecutive start for the Tigers at left tackle.
Black is also a graduate of REL.
Flynn has guided LSU to a 7-1 record and the No. 3 ranking in the Bowl Championship Series. Flynn has completed 106 of 190 passes for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Tigers are tied with Alabama for the SEC West Division lead as both squads have 4-1 records.
Both teams are open this week and will meet Saturday, Nov. 3, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Kickoff is 4 p.m. and will be televised by CBS.

JOHN TYLER GRADUATE: Denver defensive end Tim Crowder (96) celebrates his 50-yard fumble recovery touchdown Sunday in Denver.
Crowder Power
Crowder, who starred at John Tyler High School and helped the University of Texas to a national championship, is helping the Denver Broncos as a rookie.
On the Sunday Night Football stage, Crowder return a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown in the Broncos' 31-28 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With the pocket collapsing around Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, the football came loose.
Crowder scooped up the ball and left the Steelers in his dust as he made his way to the end zone.
"I've probably got 100 text messages right now," Crowder told denverbroncos.com after the game. "Just friends, family, everybody probably. Whoever's got my phone number."
The play began when teammate Elvis Dumervil sacked Roethlisberger and stripped the ball.
Crowder spotted the ball and he was off to the races.
"I just didn't look back," he said. "They always tell me, 'if you run, never look back.' I saw the ball, I scooped it up. Elvis Dumervil kicked it out to me and I just took it to the house."
The victory was key for the Broncos as the team had been struggling. It also gave Crowder, playing in his third NFL game after being sidelined with an ankle injury in the first three, a chance to display his speed in gaining his first NFL touchdown.
"It could have been a receiver (chasing me) and they wouldn't have caught me on that play," the Tylerite said. "A lot of people don't think I can run that fast, but I've got to show them every once in a while, I can."
Denver coach Mike Shanahan was happy for the win and the big play by Crowder.
"Fortunately, we won the turnover battle (Sunday) and had a big touchdown on that defensive end Tim Crowder return on the quarterback sack and fumble," Shanahan said.
The 3-3 Broncos have another big game this week as they play host to Green Bay Monday night.
"(The win gives us) a lot of confidence," said Crowder, whose TD gave the Broncos a 21-7 lead. "That's a very good team (Steelers). They were 4-1 and we beat them. That's very good for us."
With his outstanding game, Crowder was nominated for the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Week. Fans can vote at NFL.com.
