Out-Of-Town Duchesses Take Part In Coronation
Twenty-one out-of-town duchesses will take part in the coronation of Rose Queen Grace Hartley Ramey during the 2007 Texas Rose Festival, "Nature's Majesty."
These women are introduced below. The 74th festival continues through Sunday in Tyler.
JANE LOUISE BEAIRD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Briceland Beaird of Dallas, is a sophomore at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she is majoring in studio art. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and she was named to the dean's list in the fall of 2006 and spring of 2007. While at Wake Forest, she has participated in the Volunteer Service Corps, the Student Union, the Kampus Kitchen, the Student Leadership Conference of 2007 and is a student adviser.
Miss Beaird graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas, where she was awarded the Ela Hockaday Award for Outstanding Student, the Sudie Duncan Citizenship Award and was named to the Headmistress List, High Honor Roll and the Commended List. She was named an AP Scholar, a nominee for the 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Award and was co-chairman of the Hockaday/St. Marks Community Service Board. She was a member of the Thespian Society, the Upper School Musicals, the Mixed Choir, the Junior Patrons Guild, The Hockaday School Community Service Board, the Junior Symphony Ball grade representative, the ISAS Arts Festival, the Hockaday newspaper as a staff artist, the track team and the National Student Leadership Conference. She was a camper at Camp Nakanawa for Girls for nine years, receiving the Silver Letter Girl award and also Camp Mystic for Girls for nine years, where she was an M-Girl.
Miss Beaird has been involved in the National Charity League while attending the Hockaday School. She served as a volunteer at the Austin Street Shelter and was a youth group leader and lector at the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas.
Miss Beaird was presented as a duchess at the La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas in 2007 and will be a debutante at the Dallas Symphony Ball in the spring of 2008.

SHERIDAN SHOWERS BUTLER is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Butler of Austin. She attends the University of Mississippi in Oxford, where she is a sophomore majoring in broadcast journalism. Miss Butler is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Miss Butler was a graduate of St. Michael's Catholic Academy in Austin, where she was varsity head cheerleader and received the Coaches Award for Cheerleading. She was on the yearbook staff, the newspaper staff, the Tri-C Service Organization, the Prom Committee, a library aide, an office aide and a member of the National Charity League. She was recognized on the Honor Roll and received a Certificate of Recognition in Algebra I.
Miss Butler's volunteer activities included community service hours at KLRV, Austin's Public Radio Station; the Capital Area Food Bank; Eanes ISD Special Education Program; Mobile Loaves and Fishes; Tarrytown United Methodist Church and Helping Hand Home for Children. She was a member of the Settlement Home Community Youth Council and was presented at its 2005 fundraiser. Miss Butler attended Camp Mystic for girls for 7 years. Miss Butler has participated in her vocational field of interest as a summer intern at KEYE TV in Austin and is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. She is a writer for the daily newspaper, The Daily Mississippian and a worker for the Student Media Center. She attended the College Media Innovation Conference in Nashville, Tenn., in March 2007, and has been chosen to be part of a small group of journalism majors who will be mentored by the department head until graduation.
Miss Butler was presented as a duchess in the 2006 Waco Cotton Palace, was a princess at the 2007 Women's Symphony Ball and will be a princess at the Admirals Club Ball in Austin.

SARAH ELIZABETH GARDNER is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald J. Gardner of Dallas and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Milstead of Tyler. She is in her sophomore year at Baylor University in Waco, majoring in education, and is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Miss Gardner graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas where she was a member of the varsity soccer team, serving as captain her senior year. She was named to the All-District Team in 2005 and 2006 and the All-State Team in 2006. Sarah was voted Most Valuable Player in 2006 by her teammates. She participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Circle of Support Soccer Camp for underprivileged girls. Her activities included K-Life Bible Study, Crosswalk, the Junior Symphony Ball Underwriting Committee, Girl's Choir and Young Republicans.
Miss Gardner attended Camp Ozark in Arkansas for four years, attaining the Order of the Arrow for three years and FIT, First is Third, for one year. She also attended Kanakuk Camp, receiving the Four Square Life Award.
Miss Gardner has volunteered for the Circle of Support soccer day camp, Rip Parker Ministries feeding the homeless, Brother Bill's Helping Hands and was a model at the Children's Medical Center Fashion Show. She attends Texas A&M University, where she is currently a sophomore majoring in international studies. She has been named to the dean's list.
Miss Hadden was a magna cum laude graduate of Cy-Fair High School in Houston where she was president of the Spanish National Honor Society and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a Junior High Youth Leader at Northwest Baptist Church in Houston.

PAIGE CLARK HARDISON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry C. Hardison of Dallas, is a sophomore at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she is majoring in art history. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Miss Hardison is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Society and served on a team for Relay for Life in association with the American Cancer Society.
Miss Hardison graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in Dallas where she served on the Student Council as class representative and was a photographer and columnist for "The Rock" magazine. She was a member of the National Art Honors Society for two years, Cum Laude Honor Roll, and was the recipient of the Community Service Award for two consecutive years. Miss Hardison also led a Junior Girls Bible Study, and traveled to Reynosa, Mexico, for four years on mission trips to the Rio Grande Orphanage.
Miss Hardison was a junior varsity cheerleader her freshman and sophomore year and a varsity cheerleader her junior and senior year, as well as co-captain her senior year. She has been an UCA All-Star Cheerleader twice as well as a competitive cheerleader with the Cheer Athletics for three years.

Miss Hicks is a graduate of W.B. She was varsity basketball captain and participated in varsity cross country track. Miss Hicks has participated and raised funds for the Multiple Sclerosis 5k Walk for the past five years as well as the Race for a Cure. She attended Camp Longhorn for 11 years as a camper and counselor. She has been a junior and senior acolyte at the Church of the Good Shepherd as well as a vacation Bible school counselor for six years, Senior High Youth Group leader, Breakfast Ministry Team member and a member of the Youth Director Selection Committee. She volunteered at Sea City Work Camp building and restoring homes and with the Salvation Army Mobile Canteen for four years. She also volunteers through the Corpus Christi Police Department Sharing Program, delivering food at Christmas. At age 10, Miss Hicks began a graffiti clean up program to revitalize downtown Corpus Christi, where the program is still vital. She is a member of the Girls Cotillion Club.

REBECCA ERIN MURRAY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Alan Murray of Longview, is a sophomore at Baylor University in Waco, where she is majoring in finance and economics. She is a member of Chi Omega sorority. Miss Murray was named to Baylor's Dean's List and is a member of the freshman honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta. She is the recipient of both the Baylor President's Scholarship and the Capt. William Young Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution's Scholarship. In June of this year, she became a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Miss Murray is a graduate of Longview High School in Longview, where she was a majorette for four years and drum major her senior year, business manager of the yearbook and parliamentarian of the Z-Club. She was a member of the Latin Club and was active on the American Heart Association Student Board serving as historian. She also served as a Texas Bank and Trust Student Board member. She was appointed by the Longview City Council to serve on the Partners in Prevention Board. She is also a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow.
Miss Murray was on the Distinguished Honor Roll each year in high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society and is a Globe Texas Scholar with Distinction. She won University Interscholastic League medals both in twirling and in music. She qualified for All Region Band six times. At the end of her senior year, she was voted a Class Favorite.
Miss Murray has volunteered for Highway 80 Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Heart Walk, Stepping Out and has participated in an international church affiliated mission trip.
Miss Murray attended Camp Waldemar for eight years and was elected Aztec Scribe and participated in war canoe her last year at camp. She studied ballet for 13 years and has danced competitively. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Longview.
Miss Murray was presented as a Longfellows debutante in Longview in May of 2007. She also represented Longview High School as its duchess to the Yamboree in Gilmer in October 2005.

She is a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women.
Miss Peloubet graduated from All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth. Miss Peloubet has volunteered at the Van Cliburn Competition as a Cliburn Corps member, Habitat for Humanity, Race for the Cure, Botanical Research Institute, Volvo Leukemia Cup Regatta and the Presbyterian Night Shelter.

JANE LOUISE BEAIRD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Briceland Beaird of Dallas, is a sophomore at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she is majoring in studio art. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and she was named to the dean's list in the fall of 2006 and spring of 2007. While at Wake Forest, she has participated in the Volunteer Service Corps, the Student Union, the Kampus Kitchen, the Student Leadership Conference of 2007 and is a student adviser.
Miss Beaird graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas, where she was awarded the Ela Hockaday Award for Outstanding Student, the Sudie Duncan Citizenship Award and was named to the Headmistress List, High Honor Roll and the Commended List. She was named an AP Scholar, a nominee for the 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Award and was co-chairman of the Hockaday/St. Marks Community Service Board. She was a member of the Thespian Society, the Upper School Musicals, the Mixed Choir, the Junior Patrons Guild, The Hockaday School Community Service Board, the Junior Symphony Ball grade representative, the ISAS Arts Festival, the Hockaday newspaper as a staff artist, the track team and the National Student Leadership Conference. She was a camper at Camp Nakanawa for Girls for nine years, receiving the Silver Letter Girl award and also Camp Mystic for Girls for nine years, where she was an M-Girl.

She is an accomplished pianist, having studied 14 years and plays for many nursing homes, Highland Baptist Church, Waco Baptist Academy and other churches in the Waco area. She has been a docent for the Mayborn Museum, a Waco Symphony Belle, a Brazos Belle for historic homes and Christmas on the Brazos.

REBECCA ERIN MURRAY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Alan Murray of Longview, is a sophomore at Baylor University in Waco, where she is majoring in finance and economics. She is a member of Chi Omega sorority. Miss Murray was named to Baylor's Dean's List and is a member of the freshman honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta. She is the recipient of both the Baylor President's Scholarship and the Capt. William Young Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution's Scholarship. In June of this year, she became a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Miss Murray is a graduate of Longview High School in Longview, where she was a majorette for four years and drum major her senior year, business manager of the yearbook and parliamentarian of the Z-Club. She was a member of the Latin Club and was active on the American Heart Association Student Board serving as historian. She also served as a Texas Bank and Trust Student Board member. She was appointed by the Longview City Council to serve on the Partners in Prevention Board. She is also a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow.
Miss Murray was on the Distinguished Honor Roll each year in high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society and is a Globe Texas Scholar with Distinction. She won University Interscholastic League medals both in twirling and in music. She qualified for All Region Band six times. At the end of her senior year, she was voted a Class Favorite.
Miss Murray has volunteered for Highway 80 Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Heart Walk, Stepping Out and has participated in an international church affiliated mission trip.
Miss Murray attended Camp Waldemar for eight years and was elected Aztec Scribe and participated in war canoe her last year at camp. She studied ballet for 13 years and has danced competitively. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Longview.
Miss Murray was presented as a Longfellows debutante in Longview in May of 2007. She also represented Longview High School as its duchess to the Yamboree in Gilmer in October 2005.

OLIVIA PELOUBET is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Raymond Peloubet of Fort Worth and is the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones of Tyler. She is a sophomore University Scholar at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and is an advertising/corporate communication and public affairs major. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women.
Miss Peloubet graduated from All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth. Her activities included Student Foundation, yearbook staff special events editor and senior editor, varsity tennis 2003-2006, homecoming court, Washington and Lee University Summer Scholar and the Junior Canwick Social Club. She received the Upper Room Award for girls Tennis.
Miss Peloubet has volunteered at the Van Cliburn Competition as a Cliburn Corps member, Habitat for Humanity, Race for the Cure, Botanical Research Institute, Volvo Leukemia Cup Regatta and the Presbyterian Night Shelter.
Miss Peloubet served as a page to the Royal Court of the Resplendent Arts in the Order of the Alamo Fiesta Coronation in 1998.

Miss Phillips graduated from the Purnell School in Pottersville, N.J.
