Rose Queen Grace Hartley Ramey kneels down in her coronation gown and Texas Rose Festival Association President E.W. Clawater III takes the scepter and crowns her.
The public got its first look at the jeweled pageantry of the 74th Texas Rose Festival during a special matinee performance of the queen’s coronation and court presentation.
Queen Grace Hartley Ramey was highlighted in the production, held at the R. Don Cowan Fine & Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of Texas at Tyler.
In keeping with festival’s “Nature’s Majesty” theme, the queen appeared in a jeweled, off-shoulder white gown accented with pale green and gold accents.
Her 16-foot train is adorned with a nature motif with crystal jewels, mirrors, pearls, sequins, stones and gold bugle beads. She appeared wearing a crown crafted in 22-karat gold with jeweled butterflies, roses and dragonflies.
The Duchess of the Rose Growers Amanda Joan Henson, donning a richly hued gown, represents the season of Autumn.
Evening performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For ticket information, contact the Texas Rose Festival Association at (903) 597-3130, www.texasrosefestival.com.
