Palette Of Roses Art Show Opens Thursday
The Palette of Roses Art League is scheduled to present its 55th Annual Palette of Roses Art Show Thursday-Saturday in conjunction with the Texas Rose Festival, show chair and League vice president Robin Enneking said.
This free exhibit will be open to the public, following the ribbon-cutting ceremony which officially opens the 74th Texas Rose Festival.
The ceremony, featuring Rose Queen Grace Hartley Ramey and Duchess of the Rose Growers Amanda Joan Henson, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rose Garden Center, 420 Rose Park Drive, Tyler. Then the Rose Festival dignitaries will visit the opening of the Palette of Roses Art Show at the Mayfair Building, East Texas Fairgrounds.
Art Show hours are 10:45 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
"The league was started in 1952 and carries on the tradition of providing scholarships to college art students and displaying and selling fine art created by artists from Smith County and the surrounding counties, Ms. Enneking said.
Artists who are paid members of the Palette of Roses Art League are eligible to enter the show each year in the fall.
Linda Lucas Hardy, an internationally recognized colored pencil artist, will judge the 2007 show.
"Accomplished in several media, her preference for the last 15 years, however, has been colored pencil," Ms. Enneking said.
Palette of Roses Art League's free monthly meetings are held at the Atria Willow Park nursing center 3500 S. Vine, Tyler. Meetings are open to the public.
