Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin announced an East Texan is a recipient for a merit scholarship for the 2007 entering class. The Jean Browne Fellowships and Scholarships are awarded annually to Master of Divinity degree students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership ability, and interest in and strong promise vocationally for leadership in the church.
Kaci Porter of Tyler earned the Jean Browne Fellowship.
The fellowship covers full tuition and fees, room and board, and includes a books/supplies stipend of $400 for each fall and spring term.

ET Leadership Camp
Eighty-six eighth graders from Boulter, Dogan and Stewart middle schools recently participated in an iLead Camp as a part of a Tyler GEAR UP leadership initiative for students, Dr. Peggy Gill, Tyler GEAR UP director at The University of Texas at Tyler, announced.
Gill received a $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to implement Tyler Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. In partnership with the Tyler Independent School District, Tyler GEAR UP serves to encourage and prepare students for college.
The iLead camp, held Sept. 10-12 at Sky Ranch in Van, featured topics including career exploration, college admissions, curriculum and life choices as students proceed to high school.
“Since the primary objective of Tyler GEAR UP is to increase the number of college bound students from these targeted Tyler ISD campuses, the iLead camp experience was a perfect match for our students,” said Gill.
Boulter Middle School students were Jervonte Amie, Dexter Blair, Edward Carrillo, Miami Cox, Aqueelah Davis, Viviana Garcia, Gabriela Garza, Melisa Garza, Chrishayna Guyton, Devonte Haggerty, Jamarcus Hampton, Melissie Hampton, Hugo Hilario, Leslie Hill, Tra’Vion Horn, Ebony Johnigan, Juwon Johnson, Devonte Jones, Redis Jones, Brandi Joshlin, Jennifer Littrell, Justin Longacre, Kiara McGee, Oscar Rodriguez, Marcus Ross, Keundas Sanford, Eduardo Serratos, Marixa Valle, Christina Wallace, Charnice Warren and Chris Williams. Adults chaperones included assistant principal Dexter Floyd and teachers, Joel Enge and Paula Jones.
Dogan Middle School students were Ali Alonso, Brenda Anaya, Jose Araiza, Alexus Austin, Kyrian Bailey, Abner Barrera, Miguel Benitez, Christina Castillo, Edsel Cornelio, Elizabeth Correa, Raymond Curry, Abigail Garcia, Jasmine Granberry, Moya Harmon, Toya Harmon, Kiara Hill, Dominque Huerta, Cynthia Medina, Ambreanna Mitchell, Jose Murillo, Adolfo Nieto, Dion Pugh, Zulema Rosales, Noemi Santibanez, Christopher Schultz, Rubi Soto, Gerardo Villegas, Ashley Wineck and Cindy Zavala. Adults chaperones included Tyler GEAR UP Coordinator Aretha Dixson and teachers, Britany Chamlee and Lamesa Jenkins.
Twelve John Tyler High School students, along with three teachers, joined the middle school students and their teachers to establish a leadership bridge from middle school to high school.
