Exhibitors Preparing for Fair Shows
Latest Video
The East Texas State Fair continues to be a showcase for livestock exhibitors.
Fourteen shows (including the goat show) are scheduled under the pavilions today through the close of the fair on Saturday night. Most of the shows for youth exhibitors will take place on Saturday.
On Wednesday afternoon, exhibitors were preparing the animals for their trips around the show rings.
Among those at work in the cattle barns were a group of students from Kilgore College preparing young blank angus for showing. The students said the animals were raised on the college’s farm and that the fair will be the first time these animals will be in a show ring.
While some were washing the cattle behind the barns, others were grooming the just-cleaned animals inside.
The animals will go through the same routine on the day of the show.
The fair is taking on place on the fairgrounds on West Front Street. Admission is free until 1 p.m. today and Friday. Tickets cost $6 adults, $2 children 6-12. Parking costs $2. Those who bring four canned goods to donate to East Texas Food Bank on Thurs-day receive $2 discount on admis-sion and can purchase armbands for $20 for unlimited rides.
On Saturday, admission will be charged beginning at 10 am.
