Deadline Extended for Southern Heat 2007 Writing Contest
The deadline has been extended for the Southern Heat 2007 Writing Contest sponsored by the East Texas Chapter of the Romance Writers of America.
Mailed entries must be received by Oct. 26. Electronic entries must be e-mailed by midnight on Oct. 22.
Entries include the first 10 pages of your novel and a synopsis (five pages maximum).
Final round judges include New York-based editors and agents including Harlequin, Harper Collins and Avalon. First-place winners in each category will receive a review of their complete manuscript by the editor or agent judging the category.
"This is a good way to get feedback on your writing, as well as a way to possibly get the attention of an editor or agent if you make the final round in your category," said Cheril Vernon, spokesperson with the East Texas Chapter of the Romance Writers of America.
Categories include Mainstream/Single Title (final judge Tessa Woodward of Harper Collins), Historical (final judge Faith Black of Avalon), Long Contemporary (final judge Paula Eykehof of Harlequin), Short Contemporary (final judge Angela James of Samhain), Paranormal (final judge Angela James of Samhain), Erotica (final judge Nick Conrad of Ellora’s Cave) and Inspirational (final judge Melissa Endlich of Steeple Hill).
Entrants must be unpublished within the last five years in the category in which you are entering. Published authors may enter in a category in which they are unpublished and not under contract. Your entry must be unpublished at the time of submission deadline.
Each entry will receive a score sheet from two published authors (first-round judges). The degree and depth of the critique provided is at the discretion of the individual judge.
Mailed entries should be sent to: East Texas RWA, P.O. Box 131322, Tyler, TX, 75713.
