Jury Selection Under Way in KFC Trial

NEW BOSTON — Jury selection is beginning this morning in New Boston in the capital murder case of a suspect in the deaths of five people abducted from a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Kilgore in 1983.
Suspect Romero Pinkerton, 49, was moved by law officers from Bowie County Jail to the courthouse early this morning in preparation of jury selection.

Prosecutors have said it could take several days to pick a jury in one of Texas’ most notorious mass murder cases. Prosecutors and defense attorneys will pick a jury from a pool of about 350 initially called, officials have said.
Pinkerton is accused of playing a part in the death of Mary Tyler, 37, Opie Hughes, 39, Joey Johnson, 20, David Maxwell, 20, and Monte Landers, 19. Their bodies were found at an oil lease in Rusk County the next day. All had been shot.
