NEW PRINCIPAL: Shauna Hittle is getting ready for her new duties as principal of Jack Elementary School in the Tyler Independent School District. Jack is the first elementary school built in TISD during the past 20 years.
For the first time in more than 20 years, a new school will open in the Tyler Independent School District, and the principal of the new Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary School says after lots of preparation and planning, they are ready for the first day of school.
The opening of not just Jack Elementary but also the new replacement schools signal a fresh start for the district, Shauna Hittle, principal of Jack, said.

Brand new buildings - untouched by time or use - await the teachers and students of Austin, Bonner and Douglas elementary schools as they head back to the classroom this August.
The new facilities are replacements of existing elementary campuses, which were 70 to 100 years old.

Although rain has slowed progress on the exterior of those buildings, district officials have said the schools will open in time for the start of school, Aug. 27, although it's possible some exterior work, such as landscaping, might not be complete at that time.
"They will be able to have school in August," Randy Rayford, project manager with The Staubach Company, told school board members at their July meeting.
Meanwhile, the principals of the three schools are anxious to get moved in and eager about the opportunities that will come along with their new facilities.
