TWO TEENS DIE WHEN DRIVER LOSES CONTROL OF SUV
LUBBOCK, Texas - Two teens died and six others were injured when a 14-year-old driver lost control of a sport utility vehicle near the New Mexico border.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper said Billy Hernandez, 14, of Farwell, was driving at an unsafe speed on a county road Tuesday when he overcorrected and the vehicle rolled over.

Hernandez and Frankie Reyes, 14, of Muleshoe, who was ejected from the 1992 Chevrolet Suburban in the crash, were pronounced dead at the scene. Hernandez was wearing his seat belt but Reyes was not, the DPS said.

Colton Capps, 13, of Farwell, was taken by helicopter ambulance to Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock and was released Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Information on the condition of Eric Vasquez, 14, of Farwell, was not immediately available Thursday. He was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, N.M., and had been listed in serious condition on Wednesday.

Four of the injured were treated at the scene and released.

All the occupants were under 16.

"It sounds like they got the car and decided they would go out and have some fun," said DPS Trooper Wayne Beighle. "We don't think the parents knew they had taken the vehicle."
