Cateche Tatum Dike, 18, was driving her 2000 Volkswagen southbound on Texas 6 when she crossed into the northbound lane , DPS reports said.
A 2000 Ford pickup driven by Miguel Angel Berumen, 39, of Little River, veered to the right to miss the vehicle but struck the front passenger side. The pickup then skidded into a ditch and came to rest.
Ms. Dike's Volkswagen came to rest facing south on the northbound shoulder.
Ms. Dike was wearing her seat belt, DPS reports said. Justice of the Peace Ramona Aguirre pronounced her dead at the scene.
Berumen was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. The other passengers in the truck, a 35-year-old woman, a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, were also treated for minor injuries.
DPS reports did not indicate whether Berumen and the woman were wearing their seat belts, but said that the two children in the truck were not.
Driving conditions were wet and rainy, the reports said.
