WHO: Lorri Allen
WHY: Charlie “Tremendous” Jones said the only things that will change your life in the next five years are the books you read and the people you meet. Books are life-changing, so it’s hard for me to choose just one that makes me happy.
What makes me happy is reading one that I want to share. I’ll buy 10 copies of a book I like and give it for Christmas presents to all my girlfriends. A few of the books I’m happy to re-read are The Bible, “Gone With the Wind,” anything by Pat Conroy and “The Greatest Salesman in the World.”
WHO: Brian Pearson, Flint
WHY: Queso is my ultimate comfort food. I love getting it at a restaurant or making it at home. My favorite is making it with white Velveeta cheese, pico de gallo and white wine. Recently, my beautiful wife, Beth, and I dipped pizza into queso, and it was ridiculously delicious.
WHO: Brandon Davidson, Tyler
WHO: Tyler Elliott
WHY: My friend Tyler Elliott just ran his fifth marathon. He lost his dad to a heart attack when he was 4. He and his wife are expecting their first child (a little girl) this weekend.
WHO: Stephen Taylor
WHAT: “Dance Tonight,” by Paul McCartney
WHY: “It's a feel-good, makes you-want-to-smile and dance-type song. Simple words, simple song for simple, non-complex times.
WHO: Judith Highsmith, Tyler
WHY: Those few minutes just before I go to sleep each night, when I think back on the blessings I’ve received that day and am grateful for them. And there’s never a day without blessings, despite the small (or large) aggravations I’ve had to deal with. I try to practice recognizing those blessings and being grateful for them, no matter how small they might be.
