BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont museum is going to be celebrating the 150th anniversary of a quilt that has inspired quilters across the world.
The Jane Stickle Quilt will be on display at the Bennington Museum in Bennington from Aug. 31 through Oct. 14.
The quilt has been at the Bennington Museum for 60 years, but it is shown only for a short time each year because of how fragile the fabric is.
The museum says quilters from across the world travel to Bennington to view the quilt and the craftsmanship has been mentioned in numerous quilting books
Jane Stickle was born in Shaftsbury, Vt., in 1817.
She created the quilt during the Civil War. The words "In War Time 1863" are embroidered into the quilt.
