2013 Texas Rose Festival/Queen's Court: Duchesses with ties to Tyler to grace Queen's Court

Taking part in the Texas Rose Festival celebration are out-of-town duchesses, young women who have close connections to Tyler families. Many have a history of family participation in the festival.

The duchesses are part of the Rose Queen’s Court and are featured at several events including the lavish Queen’s Coronation ceremonies.

The festival, “Raindrops on Roses,” will take place in Tyler Oct. 17-20.

 

OUT-OF-TOWN DUCHESSES

 

Julianne Franklin Boss, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James W. Boss, of Waco, is the Duchess of The Brazos.

A student at Baylor University, she is in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In high school she was a cheerleader and on varsity athletic teams.

She is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scott Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Brian P. Hancock

 

Lamar Katherine Bretches, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Clay Bretches, of Houston, is the Duchess of Memorial.

A geology major at The University of Texas at Austin, she is in Pi Beta Phi sorority. In high school, she was an honors student and scholarship recipient.

She is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Harold K. Bertram.

 

Elise Annabel Matustik Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Spencer N. Brown Jr., of Waco, is the Duchess of The Heart of Texas.

A mechanical engineering major at Texas A&M University, she is in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 2012, she was the Waco Cotton Palace Queen.

She is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Faulkner.

 

Marilyn Jane Budde, daughter of Mr. Beauregard Buchanan Budde and Dr. Tia Newsom Budde, of Houston, is the Duchess of Houston.

She is a vocal performance major at Belmont University where she is in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

In high school, she was standout in vocal competitions and stage performances.

Catherine Anne Cape, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Robert Cape, of Naples, Fla., is the Duchess of Naples.

She is a musical theater major at Ohio Northern University, where she is in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and on the dean’s list.

In high school, she received academic honors and performed in acting and dance groups.

She is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Preston L. Smith.

 

Margaret Celeste Cates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Staley Cates, of Memphis, Tenn., is the Duchess of Memphis.

A nursing major at The University of Texas at Austin, she is in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

In high school, she was an Academic All-American in lacrosse and in National Honor Society.

Hannah Ferguson Crane, granddaughter of Martha Minter Ferguson, of Abilene and the late John Dickson Ferguson Jr., is the Duchess of West Texas.

A retail merchandising major at The University of Texas at Austin, she is in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

In high school, she received academic honors and was in Abilene Philharmonic Belles and Beaus.
