Regal Roses: Thirteen women from Tyler families to serve as ladies-in-waiting

Thirteen young women from Tyler families will serve as the ladies-in-waiting in the Texas Rose Festival rose queen’s coronation court.

The court is headed by Rose Queen Kathryn Elizabeth Peltier, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peltier, and Duchess of the Rose Festival Kathleen Bertram, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bertram, of Tyler.

These young women, along with the out-of-town duchesses, the escorts and queen’s attendants will be formally presented during the Rose Queen’s Coronation set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at The University of Texas at Tyler’s Cowan Center.

The ladies-in-waiting also will be featured in the Rose Parade and Queen’s Tea that will take place on Oct. 18 in the Tyler Rose Garden.

The festival, “Cirque de la Rose,” is set for Oct. 16 to Oct. 19.

 

Catherine Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Mary Holland Zorn, is a hospitality management major at the University of North Texas. She is a member of Alpha Phi sorority.

She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School where she was in the Southern Belles drill team. She also was in Junior Symphony League, an Azalea Belle and Queen’s Tea junior hostess.

Many in her extended family have been rose growers. Her mother and her aunt, Mary Zorn, of Tyler, have volunteered at the festival and Tyler Rose Museum.

Katarina Maksimovic-Vukelja Anderson, daughter of Drs. Lawrence Anderson and Svetislava Vukelja, of Tyler, is a business major at the University of Oklahoma, where she is in Delta Gamma sorority and was a director of ambassadors for Soonerthon.

Miss Anderson is a graduate of All Saints Episcopal School where she received honors in photography. She has given hundreds of hours in community service and was in Junior Symphony League.

 

Lucille Annie Bates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barrie David Bates of Tyler, is an international relations and global studies major at The University of Texas at Austin.

Miss Bates is a graduate of All Saints Episcopal School, where she played tennis, was in Green Club and wrote for the literary magazine. She also was in Junior Symphony League.

Her sister, Erica Needham Hallmark, was a lady-in-waiting in the Queen’s Court. Other relatives who have participated include Michelle Flowers Dial and Merritt Elizabeth Dial.

Other relatives include her brother-in-law, Cameron Blake Hallmark.

 

Kaitlyn Elizabeth Boone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Dale Boone and Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Scott Keith, is an apparel and textiles major at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, where she is in Delta Delta Delta sorority.

She is a graduate of All Saints Episcopal School. While in high school, she was on the Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors, in Junior Symphony League and a Boys and Girls Club volunteer.

Jeffery Boone is in the Order of the Rose and step-mother, Elizabeth Nichols Boone, has been a lady-in-waiting. Other family members who have been in the Queen’s Court are Melanie Nichols Braughton, Lynda Nichols Evans and Blakely Elizabeth Braughton, all ladies-in-waiting.

She graduated with honors from Grace Community School where she was in National Honor Society, a violinist and received national honors in spelling and equestrian competitions.

Lauren Rachal Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Dale Bennett, of Tyler, and and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Scott Brown, of Houston, is a business major at The University of Texas at Austin, where she is in Chi Omega sorority.

Miss Brown is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, where she was in National Honor Society and a Student Senate officer.

Miss Meads is a graduate of Bishop Gorman Regional Catholic High School where she was in National Honor Society and received academic merit awards and recognition for her art. She also was in Junior Symphony League.

Miss Shelton attended All Saints Episcopal High School and graduated from the UT Austin High School. She has volunteered at food banks and is a national champion caliber equestrian competitor.

Her father and her grandfather, R.B. Shelton, were escorts in the Queen’s Court and her aunt, Carol Anna Shelton Pfohl was a lady-in-waiting. Her mother, Cici Shelton, was a volunteer.
