After 11 years with The University of Texas at Tyler, Peyton Low, the assistant athletic director of public relations and operations, has resigned to become the first director of communications with the Diocese of Tyler, the University announced on Friday.
Low has been a part of the UT Tyler Athletic department since 2004, helping the Patriots become one of the top NCAA Division III athletic departments in the nation.
Earlier this month, the American Southwest Conference honored UT Tyler with the 2014 Sports Information Department of the Year award.
Throughout his tenure, Low has overseen numerous high-profile events and projects, including hosting the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball National Championship and facility upgrades.
“Peyton has faithfully served UT Tyler for the past 11 years and has paved the way, pioneered, and certainly set the standard for sports information and event management and emergency management,” Dr. Howard Patterson, UT Tyler athletic director, said.
Patterson continued, “His contributions toward identifying UT Tyler by opponents as ‘a great place to play even if we lose’ has played a major role in making UT Tyler a destination campus for so many great student athletes and this past spring’s NCAA DIII National Softball Championships was a pinnacle event and major feather in UT Tyler’s cap.”
Low, who is a Tyler native, will become the first Director of the Office of Communications for the Diocese of Tyler, which includes more than 80 churches in the Tyler area.
