Multi-part public lecture series set to begin March 25

The 2014 “Brand Lectures” will be held March 25 and 27 in the Dorman Memorial Chapel on the campus of Baptist Missionary Association (BMA) Theological Seminary in Jacksonville.

The guest lecturer will be Dr. Gary O’Neal, pastor of Greenwood Baptist Church in Fulton, Miss. and writer of one or two Compass Teacher (Advancer) Publications each year for DiscipleGuide (formerly Baptist Publishing House).

The public lectures will be presented in four sessions: “Truth Which Leads to Godliness” will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday; “Leadership Which Promotes Godliness” will be at 3 p.m. “Lifestyles Which Become Godliness” will be at 10 a.m. Thursday and “Grace Which Produces Godliness” will be at 3 p.m.

Dr. O’Neal earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida, and while there, he met and married Lynn Smith. Gary and Lynn moved to New Hampshire where they served for 10 years before moving to Texas to attend the BMA Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree in 2000. Then in 2013, he earned a Ph.D. degree in New Testament Studies from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Cordova, Tennessee.

The “Brand Lectures” are named in honor of the late Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Brand of Hattiesburg, Miss.



El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Overton will hold a Spring Revival Wednesday to Friday at 7 p.m. nightly.

The guests will be the Rev. Henry Brown of New Hope Congolee Baptist Church in Arp, the Rev. Demarcus Howard of People’s Missionary Baptist Church in Tyler, and the Rev. Stephen Hampton of Siloam Baptist Church in Winona, respectively.

The Duggar Family will be at the LifeWay Christian Store from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. The four oldest girls have a new book, “Growing Up Duggar,” that they will be signing. The whole family also will be present.
