Around East Texas: Holly Brook Baptist women's retreat slated Feb. 22

The women’s retreat for Holly Brook Baptist Church is scheduled for Feb. 22 from 9:30 to 1 p.m. Gloria Mills will speak and Kathy Gilliland is soloist and worship leader. A crafts fair and sale will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. with 10 percent of sales going to mission work. Those attending the retreat are invited to display and sell crafts.

Residents who wish to support the Salvation Army can now do so in a creative way.

Chantel Millin, Community and Corporate Relations Coordinator for The Salvation Army Tyler, is competing in a weight-loss competition sponsored by Genghis Grill restaurant and Premier Fitness in Tyler.

In support of The Salvation Army Tyler, community members now have a chance to encourage Chantel and help those in need by making a Pledge Per Pound. Pledges can be made for every pound that Chantel loses. The total weight loss will be calculated on April 11th. TYLER MUSIC COTERIE

The Tyler Music Coterie’s Hambrick/Mueller Young Musician of the Year Scholarship auditions will be March 29 at the First Presbyterian Church, 230 W. Rusk Street in Tyler.

An applicant must be a 2014 graduating high school senior who will be entering college as a music major and live within an approximate 65 mile radius of Tyler.

Applications are due March 15. The winner will receive $1200 and become eligible to receive a minimum of $500 per regular semester scholarship at the University of Texas at Tyler or $250 per year at Tyler Junior College.

The Young Musician of the Year will be presented in recital at the May 11 meeting of the Tyler Music Coterie. The recital will be at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Tyler.
