MABANK — Firefighter Kurtis Cook has been dismissed from his volunteer position at the Mabank Fire Department and barred from the premises. This came after the department’s command staff investigated reports that Cook posted a disparaging remark on a Charleston, South Carolina newspaper Facebook page “praising” the actions of Dylann Roof, the suspect charged with killing nine people in a bible study on Wednesday.

CBS19 confirmed with the department that when leaders confronted Cook, he did not deny he made the post.

Mabank Fire Department released an official statement on their Facebook page:

“The Mabank Fire Department does not condone nor promote these type of actions or thoughts. (The department) offers our deepest apologies to all that were offended by his actions and comments.”
