Massachusetts stops sending letters home to obese children.

A Massachusetts public health council voted last week to stop sending letters home with students if their body mass index indicates they are overweight or obese. A state representative said the unfunded mandate was an “overreach” and that parents complained it ostracized children who were not thin enough. The state health department instead recommends that the letters be mailed directly to parents.
