Victims in deadly shooting identified, motive is drug related

Tyler police have identified the victim of Monday’s shooting a the Chelsea Creek Apartments.

Darryl Dewayne Washington Jr., 25, was killed in building No. 14 at the apartment complex at 4920 Thistle Drive, according to a police department news release.

Police said the shooting was drug related and the victims were shot with semi-automatic handguns.

Other victims were Terry Demond Rogers, 22, of Tyler, who was shot multiple times and was in stable condition, and Nadarius Houston, 18, of Tyler, who had a minor injury and was in good condition.

Rogers had an outstanding warrant out of the Tyler Police Department for aggravated robbery, according to the news release.

The Tyler Police Department responded to the report of the shooting about 8:30 p.m. Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer Don Martin said investigators were unable to identify a suspect, but believed there could be more than one.  

Tyler investigators are continuing to follow up on information related to the shooting.
