More than 50 veterans were honored Friday at Brownsboro Junior High School and students and staff hosted a Veterans Day ceremony with former service members, hundreds of students and families in attendance.

Students performed the songs for each branch of the United States Armed Forces and a song honoring veterans and the sacrifices they make. All watched somber videos showing the high cost of military service.

School representatives presented the family of fallen soldier Spc. Alex Missildine with a flag. Missildine’s stepfather teaches at Brownsboro ISD.

Missildine died Oct. 1 as a result of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy in the Salah ad-Din Province of Iraq.
