A Quitman High School senior has died after a one-vehicle wreck Sunday in Wood County.

The preliminary investigation reveals Stephen Daniel Love, 18, was traveling east about 7:15 a.m. in a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro on Texas Highway 154, about 10 miles east of Quitman, when the car left the roadway to the north, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.

The car traveled more than 500 feet off the road before running into several trees, the DPS spokeswoman said. Love was pronounced dead at the scene.

Love played on the varsity football team and was nominated for Homecoming King. The school had celebrated Homecoming last week.

Posts on Facebook said he was a very special young man.

“Quitman ISD is saddened by the loss of one of our students,” a statement posted on the school district’s Facebook page read. “Stephen Love will be missed by his classmates, teachers, coaches, and all that knew him. The district would like to extend our condolences to his family and friends.”
