A Tyler Junior College student has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a shooting that occurred at a campus parking lot.

Malcolm Love, 21, of Lewisville, was arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail on Monday. He faces one charge of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and marijuana possession, a Class A misdemeanor. His bonds totaled $500,000.

Tyler Junior College Campus Police announced Tuesday that they had arrested a student after conducting an investigation regarding a Sept. 18 incident that happened in the parking lot between Crossroads Hall and Bateman Hall.

The incident was originally described as “suspicious circumstances” after a loud bang was reported, and the source of the noise was undetermined at the time. The incident was upgraded to an aggravated assault after a witness provided new information and campus police conducted several searches to collect evidence from the scene.

Campus police confirmed that a single shot had been fired.

TJC Campus Police and the Tyler Police Department are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact TJC Campus Police at 903-510-2258.
