A Gladewater man was killed Monday morning after he was struck by an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20 in Gregg County.

At 1:23 a.m. Monday, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were called to a two-vehicle crash on the interstate, about four miles west of the Longview city limits, according to a news release.

According to the agency, a 63-year-old Quitman man was driving east on the road in a 2013 model 18-wheeler when he encountered a possibly disabled 1999 Honda Rebel motorcycle standing in the middle of the right lane.

The truck struck the motorcycle and its driver, Joel R. Choate, of Gladewater.

Choate was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by Judge James Mathis. His body was taken to Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
