Although construction has not yet begun, an air of change has settled over Tyler Independent School District.

The freshman class at Robert. E. Lee and John Tyler High Schools walked on campus on Monday greeted by facilities more than half a century old, but they will be the first class to graduate from the renovated facilities to be built from the district’s successful $198 million bond package.

With blueprints expected in December, construction will begin before the school year is over.

Close to 5,000 of the district’s 18,000 students attend the two schools.
