Event to teach Girl Scouts a variety of skills
Girl Scouts will have opportunities to learn new skills ranging from creating books to crafting several different objects during workshops that will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the adult education building at Green Acres Baptist Church, 1607 Troup Hwy.
Registration is still open, and there is a fee to cover the cost of materials. A single workshop is $12, or get four workshop sessions for $40. The sessions are open to girls ranging from kindergarten through 10th grade. Girls who are not in a Girl Scout troop are also allowed to register.

Concert to benefit the East Texas Fraternal Order of Police
Coach’s & Cowboy’s, 8374 Paluxy Drive, will host a family food and fun event Aug. 11 that will feature a model car show and concert to benefit the East Texas Fraternal Order of Police.
Beginning at 4 p.m., families and supporters of all ages can enjoy menu items, drinks and games at the grand opening of the newly remodeled Coach’s sports bar, with proceeds being given back to the FOP. At 5 p.m., supporters of all ages can visit the classic model car show in the parking lot.
At 7 p.m., the doors will open at Cowboy’s for a benefit concert featuring country music artist Curtis Grimes, with opening act Brian Chance. Advance concert tickets are $15, and $20 at the door for attendees 18 and older only. Tickets can be purchased at www.TXFOPLodge51.org .

Meeting for paperweight enthusiasts to take place in Tyler
The Paperweight Collectors Association of Texas will hold a meeting open to all paperweight enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22 at Staybridge Suites, 2759 McDonald Rd.
The nonprofit group of paperweight enthusiasts rotates meetings to different cities in Texas to better serve members who live in places like Lubbock, Longview and LaGrange. Organizers for the event say Dallas and Fort Worth members are ecstatic about the short drive for the July meeting.
At the event, attendees will be able to purchase paperweights from Roger Jacobsen, a guest dealer, and will hear from members who purchased weights at the international Paperweight Collectors Association conference in May.
Some attendees who attended the conference will share show some of the items they added to their collections.

Transit to offer free rides to Tyler library for children and teens this summer
The Tyler Public Library is partnering with Tyler Transit to bring children and teenagers to the library this summer.
Through Aug. 31, children and teens wanting to go to the library, 201 S. College Ave., can ride the bus for free. Throughout the summer months, the library offers a multitude of free programs for all ages to coincide with its annual Summer Reading Club.
Transit and transfer passes are free for children and teens up to age 18, only to and from the library. Adult passes are $1 each. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult over 18 at all times.
Families wishing to take advantage of the offer will need to show a Tyler Public Library card to the bus driver and state that they are either traveling to or from the library.

Sight.org to hold Sight Night
Sight.org will hold an event titled “The Joy of Sight” from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 at Callynth Photography Studio, 117 E. Erwin St.
The event will feature art by local artist in a silent auction. Hors d’oeuvres and live music will also be featured.
All proceeds will be used to help Sight.org fulfill its mission to help provide sight to the blind in Togo, Africa.

JT Class of ’67 to hold reunion
The John Tyler High School Class of 1967 will celebrate their 50th reunion October 6- and 7 at Staybridge Suites, 2759 McDonald Rd.
The cost to attend is $35 per person in advance or $40 at the door.
