Several cars have derailed and traffic is snarled after two trains collided today in Jefferson.
About eight Union Pacific railcars came off the track before 11 a.m. along U.S. 59 inside the Jefferson City Limits, according to Marion County Sheriff David McKnight.
McKnight said in a statement that there were no injuries and no spilled hazardous materials have been found, but traffic remains an issue in the area as crews work the scene. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes.
Jefferson City Administrator Kevin Huckabee put the estimate of derailed cars slightly higher than McKnight.
