The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified a 16-year-old girl who died Thursday after a one-vehicle crash near Tatum.

The driver of the vehicle, Sarah Paige Stanfield, of Tatum, was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 8 p.m. Thursday, troopers responded to a crash involving a 2007 Hummer H3 on Texas Highway 43 about 1.7 miles north of Tatum in Panola County.

The DPS preliminary investigation said the H3 was traveling southbound on Texas 43 in the right outside lane. The vehicle veered off the roadway on the west unimproved shoulder and struck the edge of a driveway embankment with its undercarriage. This caused the vehicle to vault over the driveway.

The vehicle rolled several times to the left and end-over-end. It came to rest upside down facing north on the west unimproved shoulder.
