Democratic Congressman Beto O’Rourke, who plans to challenge Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018, will visit Tyler from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The event is a meet-and-greet at 625 S. College Ave.
A busload of supporters will follow the congressman to another event in Bowie County as part of his East Texas tour on Saturday.
According to the Associated Press, O’Rourke is "a former punk-rocker who needed a hefty upset to win his congressional seat six years ago.”
“O’Rourke, a 44-year-old Democrat from El Paso, has advocated for legalizing marijuana and preaches tolerance on the U.S.-Mexico border in defiance of President Donald Trump’s ‘Build that wall’ mantra," the AP reports.
O’Rourke insists Cruz can be beaten, and will focus his efforts on disaffected Democrats in the Lone Star State.
He most recently was in East Texas in early April when he made a stop in Longview.
