The ninth annual Shine Your Light Community Campaign raised more than $ 170,000 for 10 local nonprofit organizations.
This week, representatives from each of those organizations, received their nonprofit's portion of the funds, which amounted to a little more than $16,800 each.
The 2016 campaign, which ran from Dec. 14 to 31, produced the fourth highest total in the nine years since the campaign started.
The contributions supported People Attempting To Help (PATH); The Mentoring Alliance - Boys & Girls Clubs of East Texas; Samaritan Counseling Center; Meals On Wheels Ministry; Alzheimer’s Alliance of Smith County; Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA); East Texas Food Bank; Bethesda Health Clinic; The Salvation Army; and Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County.
“The generosity of this community is an amazing and joyful thing to watch,” Tyler Morning Telegraph Publisher Nelson Clyde said at the conclusion of the campaign. “We are so grateful to everyone who donated to Shine Your Light.”
Since 2008, the community has raised more than $1.3 million for 20 local nonprofits organizations. The East Texas Communities Foundation is the administrator for the campaign.
