Three brothers have been arrested in connection to the October 2016 slaying of a 27-year-old New Summerfield man in Cherokee County.

Maximino Garcia, Emmanuel Garcia and Jose Garcia have all been detained and are in the custody of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. They each face murder charges, and have bonds set at $1 million.

At 9:18 a.m. Oct. 10, 2016, deputies with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a body that was found inside of a vehicle on County Road 4415 in the northeast portion of the county.

The suspect appeared to have died from several gunshot wounds, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The victim was later identified as Mario Rodriguez, 27, of New Summerfield.

His family had reported him missing the previous night when he failed to return from the store.

Maximino was arrested in McAllen Texas on Feb. 7. Emmanuel was arrested on an unrelated charge in the Hidalgo County Jail and received an additional warrant for the murder charge on March 11. Jose was arrested on the murder charge Saturday at his residence. The case remains under investigation.
