A school crossing guard was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning and taken to East Texas Medical Center with injuries not considered life threatening.

Police were dispatched about 7:15 a.m. to the incident near Roanoke Lane and Loop 323, near Clarkston Elementary School. The crossing guard, identified as a 73-year-old Tyler man, had been struck in the northbound lanes of Loop 323 as he was walking children across the designated crosswalk.

Officers said a 26-year-old Tyler woman who struck the crossing guard reported seeing children cross the roadway but said she did not see the crossing guard. She was issued a citation for failure to obey a crossing guard.
