Mathnasium of Tyler awarded $500 scholarships on Wednesday, Dec. 3, to three Tyler-area private school students to use for their spring semester tuition fees.

Winners Ezhan Hassan, of All Saints Episcopal School, Bryce Johnson, of Grace Community School and Markus Ma, of The Brook Hill School, competed on Nov. 1 in a math contest held at Mathnasium of Tyler.

The exam the trio completed is the same exam the learning center uses to hire their instructors. The students were required to complete the exam mentally, as no calculators were allowed. The students with the highest exam score won a $500 scholarship to their respective school for the spring semester. The winners also were given the opportunity to interview to become an instructor at Mathnasium.

“There just aren’t many opportunities for kids who are great in math to show off their skills. We like to meet kids that are great at it and have a love of math. Our enrolled students also enjoy working with kids near their own age if they can, so this opens up a channel for these math-gifted kids to help kids who are struggling in math,” Mathnasium of Tyler owner Frank Mann said in a news release.

Mathnasium is a year-round, national math-only learning center franchise that teaches children math. Mathnasium has more than 500 franchises in the United States and abroad. The Mathnasium is located at 5201 S Broadway Ave #110.
