A body was discovered Tuesday in the bed of an abandoned 2001 Ford pick-up in rural Cherokee County, near Reklaw, according to a press release sent by the New Summerfield Police Department.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and New Summerfield Police Department responded to the scene.
Andrew Strom, New Summerfield Police Chief, said in the release that reports of a body found Wednesday were incorrect.
Instead, New Summerfield Police Department officers traveled to Dallas Wednesday for the autopsy on the body found Tuesday. Judge Vera Foreman, Cherokee County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace, ordered the autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The cause and manner of death, and identification of the body have not been determined.
Officials are investigating whether the body is in connection to a missing person investigation on Javier Jimenez. Jimenez was reported missing by his wife, who stated she last saw him July 23 at their home in New Summerfield.
The press release states Jimenez left to work in Jacksonville at 7 a.m. July 23, but did not return home as expected.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
