WINONA (KYTX) -- Recently-elected Mayor DeDe Stroud submitted her letter of resignation to the city council this week after a rocky couple of months in office. Stroud's resignation will require the council's consideration and, ultimately, come to a vote.

Police Chief Bryan Richards, speaking on behalf of the city, said he had reviewed Stroud's letter Tuesday and found it to contain no specific reason for the resignation. Sources outside city hall indicated Stroud felt her life had been threatened. Stroud did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday afternoon.

Richards said Stroud had met with one city council member Monday while turning in city property including a key and an iPad.

Our news partners at the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported in June that Stroud had left the executive session of a city council meeting in tears. Citizens later expressed support for Stroud during public comment time. She has been in office since being elected in May.

The Winona city council will hold a special meeting Thursday, July 31 at 6:30pm to consider the resignation.
