Children are invited to bring a friend along on a train ride.

The Texas State Railroad will host its Teddy Bear’s Train Ride on Aug. 1, according to a news release.

The teddy bear-themed train will depart from the Rusk Depot at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The station is about three miles west of downtown Rusk on U.S. Highway 84.

All children 12 and younger who bring their teddy bear with them will ride for free.

There will be activities before departure and special snacks on board the train, plus children will get a chance to meet 10-year-old Boomer Bear and his parents, Spike and Glimmer, who both work for The Texas State Railroad. Spike is a conductor and Glimmer is an engineer, the release states.

For the second year in a row, Boomer is asking for donations of new teddy bears and new baby blankets, which will be donated to The Blankets and Bears Children’s Fund in Anderson County and distributed to police officers and hospital emergency room workers to give to traumatized children.

Seating is limited and tickets are going fast. For reservations call 903-683-3098 or book online at www.texasstaterr.com/events.php .
