KILGORE (KYTX) – Two children are dead, and one adult is hospitalized in critical condition following a two-vehicle accident near Kilgore early Thursday morning.
Texas DPS reports a 5-year-old boy, and a 12-year-old girl who were riding in a van were pronounced dead at the scene.
The children’s mother, also a passenger in the van, is listed in critical condition at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview.
The father and driver of the van, was transported with non-life threatening injuries. No names have been released at this time. Kilgore police have determined the family is from Central Texas.
The driver of the second vehicle, 22-year-old Shelby Taylor of Henderson, was traveling south in the northbound lane of Highway 259 when the two vehicles struck in the center of the road.
Taylor is was taken to a local hospital where she is listed in undetermined condition.
The investigation led DPS Troopers to secure a DWI search warrant for Taylor.
The DPS investigation is still ongoing.
Troopers say the children were not wearing seat belts. The fatal wreck occurred at 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 259 near Dudley.
