Tyler‚Äôs 60 residential and commercial solid waste collectors will be recognized Wednesday in honor of National Garbage Man Day, the city of Tyler announced.
According to a news release, a special luncheon is planned ‚Äúto show appreciation for all of their service.‚ÄĚ Residents may show their appreciation by leaving notes on garbage cans or calling or emailing the local office.¬†
It is estimated that each week, 2,000 tons of solid waste is collected in the city, along with 30 tons of recycling, according to a news release.¬†
‚ÄúWe‚Äôre just here to serve our customers in the most economically and environmentally responsible way,‚ÄĚ Residential Superintendent Galen Billington said. ‚ÄúTo receive the city‚Äôs gratitude makes us thankful to work in such a wonderful community.‚ÄĚ¬†
According to a news release, Tyler Solid Waste is proud of its fleet of Compressed Natural Gas trucks, which decrease greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 500 pounds per year.¬†
‚ÄúTyler Solid Waste collects trash twice a week, with some of the lowest rates in Texas. Residents have continually voted Tyler Solid Waste as a top city service,‚ÄĚ according to a news release.
