LINDALE -- Petitions for the sale of beer and wine are officially circulating in Smith County Justice of the Peace Precinct 5.

The move by the Committee for Economic Growth was kicked off in a press conference at The Fatt Apple Catering, 104 N. Main St. in Lindale, where the city's former mayor and committee member Jim Mallory ceremoniously signed the two petitions.

The group is following JP precincts 1,2 and 4 to pass two alcohol options. One is for the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption and for the sale of mixed beverages in restaurants using a food and beverage certificate.

The group needs 2,574 signatures in 30 days to get the options on the November ballot.

Precinct 5 includes the cities of Lindale and Hideaway Lake as well as the communities of Mt. Sylvan, Swan and Garden Valley.
