State square and round dancing festival is scheduled for Thursday

The public is invited to the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers’ 52nd Annual State Festival Program.

It is scheduled for Thursday through June 15 at the Harvey Convention Center and Tyler Rose Garden Center.

The Texas State Callers’ Association will hold a dance on Thursday, with square and round dancing slated for 7 to 10 p.m.

“The callers and cuers will be members of the Texas State Callers’ Association. Texas square and round dancers are eagerly anticipating returning to Tyler and once again enjoying Tyler’s hospitality,” according to a news release.

The Pre-Festival Dance, hosted by the East Texas Square and Round Dance Association is scheduled for Friday, with Early Rounds slated for 7 to 7:30 p.m.; Grand March and Opening Ceremonies are slated for 7:45 p.m.; and Square & Round Dancing 8 to 10 p.m.

On June 14, activities kick off at 9 a.m. with dancing, panels and exhibits and fashion show.

Opening ceremonies be-gin at 6:30 p.m. with dancing from 7:15 to 10:15 p.m.

On June 15, a festival business meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. and the 53rd Festival Kickoff Dance is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Additionally, the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers sponsors a teen scholarship program, and each year high school seniors are awarded college scholarships, according to a news release.

“One of the teen dancers’ most anticipated activity at the state festival each year is the ‘Teen Lock In,’” the news release reads.

“After the regular dance activities are completed, the teens get together for a combination dance/slumber party. They have adult sponsors, door prizes are given, food is provided, and dancing for a fun night.”
