Van Zandt County Balloon Fest set this weekend

The third annual Van Zandt County Balloon Fest is slated this weekend at Tailwind Airpark/Thompson Airport.

About 20 balloons are expected to be at the event, and attendees are invited to bring a friend and a lawn chair.

Hot-air balloons will be seen around Canton on Friday from 7 to 7:30 a.m. and again in the evening beginning at dusk, depending on favorable weather conditions. They are anticipated to fly again on Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 8 a.m.

Tailwind Airpark is between Canton and Edgewood, 2 miles north of Interstate 20 off Farm-to-Market Road 859 on Van Zandt County Road 3119.

Admission will be free, with parking for $10 per car.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with airplane rides and activities for the kids throughout the day, including a bounce house, basketball, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and more.

Food and merchandise vendors will be onsite throughout the day.

Other activities include radio controlled aircraft, aircraft static display, Trinity Mother Frances helicopter, tethered balloon rides, a car show from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and a balloon glow at dusk.
