Families are invited to come out this weekend to the fifth annual Teddy Bear Picnic.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at The Children’s Park, 900 S. Broadway Ave.
Organizer Jennifer Carson said the goal is to bring families together and introduce children to or provide them with an opportunity to be in a natural play environment.
The reason for the event she said, is to invite people into The Children’s Park who haven’t been there or remind them that the park is there.
“It’s really simple. It’s not anything complicated or fancy,” Ms. Carson said.
During the come-and-go event, stations will be set up, she said.
She said a storyteller, music and face painting will be available, and there will be a booth for smaller children to do crafts.
Ms. Carson said children today spend a lot of time indoors, and The Children’s Park is a public space where they can explore.
“It’s … a natural play that we want to try to incorporate back into our society,” she said.
“It’s just a good place for families to come together.”
Teddy Bear Picnic attendees may bring their own picnic lunch and blanket.
The event is free. However, children are invited to bring a $1 donation for the park, as well as their own teddy bear to play with, Ms. Carson said.
