The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of partial human remains found Friday night off of County Road 3529 near Wills Point.

According to a press release, the remains are believed to be those of John Richard Hannon, 59, who had been reported missing to Van Zandt County Constables Office, Pct 3 in late February.

"Throughout Thursday evening the Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of Hannon’s property and was joined Friday in the search by Air Land Emergency Resource Team, Dallas Search One canines, Canton Fire and Rescue, Van Zandt Fire Marshall’s Office and the Texas Rangers.," the press release stated.

Authorities located skeletal remains in nearby fields and a partial skull and jaw near a neighboring residence. The remains appear to be scattered as a result of animals and were transported to the University of North Texas Forensic Center for analysis and positive identification.

The investigation is continuing.
