The East Texas Crisis Center is set to host the second-annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on May 31 during the Fiddler’s Festival.

“The event is the international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and violence against women,” according to the written release. “A Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is a playful opportunity for men in our community to raise awareness about the serious causes, effects and remediations to sexualized violence.”

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes.

“It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that is really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence,” according to the release. “It demonstrates that men are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in making the world a safer place.”

The registration deadline is April 15. Special shoes design for men’s size will be provided. Participants can walk as an individual or have a team (teams limited to three to six men).
